about

For the second single of his forthcoming Love, Care, Kindness & Hope album, Fred invited UK singer James Alexander Bright to feature on the song Breathe. James is a singer, songwriter from the UK, with solo albums on K7 and the collaborative project Bright & Findlay with Tom Findlay of Groove Armada.

The backing track was written in isolation during a studio residency north of Montreal where half of the album was originally conceived. The emotionally charged character of the song was inspired by a sad event but ultimately turned into something positive and hopeful. The collaboration idea came after Fred remixed Talk Talk by Groove Armada, which featured James on vocals. The two hit it off on a creative and personal level and instantly made plans to work together.

The original strings arrangement was replayed and recorded in London by Pete Whitfield. The song also features backing vocals by Wayne Tennant, who collaborated with Fred on his 2009 track, Mercyless (Om Records).

New versions including remixes from Rocco Rodamaal will be available in the Spring 2024.
